Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour Game Review:
Like the first three games, this Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour campaign offers a very typical Call of Duty and based on intense action and without downtime. The goal is not to procrastinate or to ask existential questions, that we understand after a few seconds of play only. Indeed, the pitch is presented could not be more simple, or even cliché: a big bad villain wants to annoy the President of the United States and it is up to the player to stop eliminating terrorists thousands. If it is possible to embody in turn members of both camps, it is ultimately not really care who the enemy is and why it kills. The scenario thus becomes secondary quickly, and it connects the frags during 3-4 hours without knowing why.
This single player campaign can however rely on a managed pace and an action deluge breathtaking. Thus, as in previous episodes, explosions abound, buildings collapse and fuse balls. It potshots indeed from all sides and ammunition are rarely limiting. This obviously requires a very strong corridor aspect, by QTE uninspired and ubiquitous scripts. Maybe even a little too much! Indeed, the soldiers appear at specific times (when entering a room, eliminating the last representative of a first wave, when a contextual action is successful, etc.) and often directly under the player’s nose. This somewhat limits the immersion and can be annoying when you find yourself surrounded after attempting a breakthrough one was believed to be the last enemy. Note that the proposed missions are also not particularly varied and consist too often to free a hostage to hack a terminal or achieve a discharge point. Some passages, however, cut the monotony, like the phases where you control a drone. In short, despite the defects that would be unforgivable coming from a console FPS, this Modern Combat 4 offers an adventure not so bad as that, thanks to its non-stop action.
